How E-Learning Will Shape Medical Education?

E-learning is a new and emerging area of learning that has the potential to revolutionize medicine. The issues that currently make traditional education difficult in hospitals, including low job satisfaction with teaching, hours of class time per day, and student burnout, can be mitigated how to sell courses by e-learning app. It also allows students to develop skills relevant to the workplace while maintaining their work schedule. But for this concept to be successful in medical schools and hospitals across the world, some changes need to be made. One such change is an increased focus on evidence-based practice (EBP) and increasing transparency about how healthcare decisions are made through research literature and analysis.

Traditional education also needs to emphasize patient-centered care.

In addition, a change in the delivery of EBP must take place from lecture to didactic and e-learning. There must also be changes in student-teacher interaction so that students are more aware of their responsibilities and their accountability towards their peers. E-learning can also help optimize healthcare production and delivery. In some countries, 80-90% of healthcare spending is spent on administration, not on actual patient treatment or care; therefore, a reduction in miscommunication can lead to an increasing inefficiency.

E-learning can also make doctors more self-directed, goal-oriented learners.

This increased level of independent learning can allow medical practitioners to develop their professional development plans and seek out educational opportunities independently. Self-directed learning can also help combat the problem of overworked and stressed physicians who have to take care of more patients than they should. This “overwhelm” that many physicians experience puts them at a higher risk for burnout, which has been shown to correlate with an increase in medical errors. Professional organizations such as the World Health Organization suggest using e-learning in conjunction with traditional education methods to have the best of both worlds.

This time savings can create additional time for patients or other care activities.

One study showed that increasing the number of teaching hours gave the students more opportunities to practice their skills, which led to a decrease in medical errors. This decreased risk of error is consistent with the World Health Organization’s goal of creating safe healthcare delivery. The WHO suggests teaching physicians how to use checklists and safety routines while still in school to create best practices that may be followed throughout their careers.

E-learning is a potential tool to address the issues in medicine and healthcare delivery. However, traditional medicine needs to change before e-learning becomes truly successful. If medical professionals are to embrace these changes, this new concept has great potential for enhancing the careers of future health professionals.

E-Learning must not be understood as distinct from other forms of learning.

E-Learning assumes that information is now digital and can be communicated among individuals at a distance. Therefore, E-Learning may or may not include using a Learning Management System (LMS). For this reason, E-Learning also encompasses other modalities such as virtual learning environments (VLEs) and course management systems (CMS).

To reinforce the concept of E-Learning, e-learning has been defined as any learning that is delivered by technology. 

It is a transition to Internet-based information sharing and communication to replace traditional learning. E-Learning is a broad term that covers various modalities such as computer-based training (how to sell courses online), online web conferencing, virtual classroom, Massive Open (MOOC), among others. E-Learning has the potential to be highly interactive with the students and allows for a very high degree of learner empowerment. This technology can allow for collaborative work, learner autonomy, peer learning, virtual teams, and mentoring.
